Frida Kahlo 3: The Frame (Inspired by the Original)

Inspired by Frida Kahlo: The Frame

Following on from the Frida Card and Frida picture I made, I decided to make a Frida Kahlo picture frame.

Frida Kahlo: The Frame

It is a tribute to Frida Kahlo’s ‘The Frame’.

Frida Kahlo Stamp by IndigoBlu

Stamp sets

Everything I used for this frame was made from stamps and die cuts in my stash. Frida’s stamp is by IndigoBlu, and the other two were free gifts from a magazine.

The Frame

Inspired by Frida Kahlo: The Frame

The original Frida stamp image had too many flowers for this project, so I used three of the roses, her face and drew the rest myself.

Frida Kahlo Inspired Photo Frame

The Frame as a photo frame

The title of Frida Kahlo’s artwork was ‘The Frame’, so I made this as a picture frame and you can use whichever photo you like. By the way, the models are my husband and Murphy!

Making Everything With Stamps and Die Cuts

Rose

The big rose was stamped, coloured, and then I added glitter and resin to make it hard and shiny, with a 3d effect. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a tropical bird stamp like Frida’s, so I chose the chicken stamp. I think it’s okay for me. I particularly wanted to make everything by stamps and die cuts in my stash. The chicken on the left was a stamp, and I had to draw the one on the right by hand because I didn’t have a stamp with the reverse image. As a result, I realised how useful it is to have symmetrical stamps!

Monochrome Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo: Everything Changes

This was the first picture I made to use in the ‘Frida Frame’. In order to make the frame stand out, only the flowers were coloured, and the portrait was monochrome. After consulting with my muse (aka husband!), I agreed with his opinion that it was better to go with a colour portrait. However, I didn’t want to throw away the monochrome stamp, so I made another background for it.

Monochrome Mexican Flag

Frida Kahlo: Everything Changes

The background consists of a stamped border and an embossing powder texture, and it is coloured with ink. I made it in the image of the Mexican flag, but the portrait stamp was so big that the flag is somewhat hidden. I should have considered the size of the card a little more.

  1. This is wonderful! I didn’t expect to see this colourful version of The Frame because your Instagram post was just the black and white version! What a nice surprise! It cool that it can be used as a photo frame, too. Your dog looks cool! (And hubby too, of course!)

    • Thank you! Actually, I did the original post about The Frame a while ago but only just added the monochrome version to the same post as an update! I’m glad you like it!
